Dr Zafar Mirza in Geneva to attend World Health Assembly

Minister of State for National Health Services, Regulations and Coordination Dr Zafar Mirza Monday reached Geneva as head of Pakistani delegation to attend 194 nations World Health Assembly.

On his arrival, he said today’s world health is a shared responsibility, involving equitable access to essential care and collective defense against transnational threats, a statement received here said.

He said the World Health Assembly is the supreme decision-making forum where nations of the world converge to deliberate and devise strategies for promoting health and reducing disease burden.

He said delegations led by health minister from all over the world are in Geneva to attend the World Health Assembly.

“I will present the major reform agenda of our government under the leadership for Prime Minister Imran Khan,” the minister said.

He said there will be an opportunity to showcase progress made in different areas alongside our challenges and approaches adopted to overcome them, he added.

“Universal Health Coverage which is also the theme of this year’s World Health Assembly will be our area of focus besides efforts to align our health reforms with WHO General Program of Work 2030.”

He said, “I look forward to holding important meetings with health ministers of different countries to discuss mutual cooperation in the field of health.”

He said, “I will also be meeting WHO director general and regional director alongside meeting heads and senior leaderships of leading donor organizations including Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, Global Fund for AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria, Global Alliance for vaccines and immunization amongst others to discuss ongoing collaborative programs aimed at improving the health and well being of the people of Pakistan.”
