The motion submitted by Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry mentioned the premier's role in de-escalating tensions between India and Pakistan.
The Indian leadership's war hysteria caused tension between the two countries, the motion read. Indian leadership's aggression brought the two nuclear-armed countries on the brink of war, it added.
Imran Khan expertly diverted the situation towards peace, the motion further said.
PM Imran should be awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for his efforts towards peace, it added.
On Friday, #NobelPeacePrizeForImranKhan became the top trend as the premier was lauded world over for his decision to release captured Indian air force pilot Abhinandan Varthaman as a peace gesture to de-escalate tensions with neighbouring India.
The premier, in his address to a joint session of Parliament on Thursday, announced to release Wing Commander Abhinandan as a gesture of peace and goodwill towards India, earning him praise from celebrities, journalists, diplomats and the common public who admired his brave and bold move in the favour of maintaining peace in the region and possibly avoiding an all-out war with India, the consequences of which could be disastrous.
An online petition was filed moving the Norwegian Nobel Committee for the nomination of Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan for the "Nobel Peace Prize for 2020 for his peace efforts and dialogues in the Asian region on diverse conflicts (e.g. Pakistan-India, Afghanistan-USA, Middle East etc.)".
"His (Imran's) contributions deserve the international recognition with the award of Nobel Peace Prize in 2020, his aims of ensuring lasting peace in the region and discouraging revival of militarism should be recognized and greatly appreciated," read the online petition, started by Rameez Asif, on petition website Change.org.
